🤷‍♀️ What's a fic you didn't expect to be popular, but really took off?

I occasionally say this, but I'm extremely baffled that my spones day fic is so popular (your mileage might vary lol) - at the moment it has 196 kudos (and it isn't even a year) and it's number one in the collection. Which like why? I wrote it in my "writing spones is really hard atm" period, and it is the last spones fic I've written (or rather, finished, since I did try writing something for the zine, but failed lol), and I just really disliked writing it, so I just don't have pleasant memories concerning this fic, but people seem to love it. I understand why, because fluff and "didn't know they were dating" but... my feelings can't be changed.

The other fic is ofc my Kirk/La'an fic that I wrote in the middle of season 2 (and just a few weeks after the spones day fic and I had a blast compared to the spones fic). But I've never imagined that a het fic would be my most popular fic - or become number 1 fic for the ship on ao3 - especially when around that time the perception of SNW fandom was: people don't read SNW fics. And people still keep finding it, but I guess that's what it means to write something for an ongoing show.

🌷 What's one of your fics that isn't as popular, but you hold dear?

The Horrors of the Past - this is a Kirk/McCoy-ish fic set in the AU established in the finale of SNW s1, but it's a TOS fic. It was written before SNW2, and I just really wanted to explore Kirk's feelings after becoming the captain of the Farragut, so it's based on Obsession (the title also comes from Obsession). La'an is the XO because I say so.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
